Menita Overton started her passion for movement in calisthenics at the age of two. When Menita moved into dance, she was personally trained by our studio director and developed a passion for contemporary, ballet and acrobatics.
Expanding her knowledge through the dance excellence program and Certificate II in Dance at Helensvale High, Menita was accepted onto the Elite Dance Troupe participating in many performance opportunities.
In Menita’s final year of schooling she was awarded dux of the dance class for her academic and choreographic success and awarded Most Outstanding Dance Performance and Most Outstanding Performance Within a Troupe. Since graduating, Menita has returned to Helensvale High as a guest choreographer and dance instructor.
In 2015 Menita began sharing her passion with our students while teaching acrobatics, contemporary and ballet classes. Menita also travelled to Melbourne to study at the prestigious Australian Conservatoire of Ballet where she attained her ACB teachers certificate making her a qualified ballet teacher.
Other qualifications include a certificate in the nationally recognised Acrobatique Junior syllabus.
In 2018 Menita graduated Queensland University of Technology – Bachelor in Fine Arts (Dance) with Distinctions is now furthering her studies with a Masters degree in Secondary School Teaching.
During the degree, Menita has been involved in the renowned Brisbane Festival, teaching at QUT’s Creative Practice Experience Day and QUT’s Timor Leste Community Project. This particular project altered her teaching style and inspired her to educate as a facilitator through collaboration rather than a controller of artistic practice. Menita teaches with a strong focus on forming genuine connections and creating social spaces of inclusivity that work on turning human interactions into art.
